It’s never a good idea to wear headphones when driving, riding a bike or even when crossing the street as a pedestrian. Never limit your ability to hear other vehicles, warning horns, or sirens. It could prove deadly for you and others as KSL reports in this video. A 32-year old man was hit by a TRAX train. Police think he may have been wearing headphones and didn’t hear the train or the train’s horn blaring at him.

One of the most common bike/vehicle accidents we see at Gregory & Swapp is when a vehicle pulls out in front of cyclist (who has the right-of-the-way). Oftentimes the driver looks past the cyclist for an opening in incoming traffic. In some cases, the driver’s line-of-sight is obstructed by a mirror or windshield panel. In all of these cases, the driver is cited for improper lookout. Call the cycling attorneys at Gregory & Swapp if this has happened to you.

Bicycle accidents are becoming more common as more people turn to alternative forms of transportation during this economic downturn. Bike accidents are also more deadly and injurious since little to no protection is offered to bikers when they are involved in an accident with a vehicle. It’s all too easy

Bicycle accident?  No, more likely attempted murder. An experienced bicyclist was run over by a commercial truck after he knocked on the window of the cab to let the driver know that he was next to the truck.  The action enraged the driver, who turned his truck around and ran over the bicyclist. The cyclist was riding with his wife at the time, who witnessed the incident. Police call the action intentional and plan to charge the driver with attempted homicide.
